How to use Apple's New Multi-touch Magic Mouse

Using two fingers as swipe gesture on the top surface of the Magic mouse will navigate back and forth through web pages, Cover Flow items, or photos. Magic Mouse uses the same laser tracking technology claimed to be more responsive and sensitive on more surfaces. Running on two AA batteries, this wireless mouse supports secured connection up to 33 feet distance. Magic Mouse requires Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 to function smoothly with Bluetooth-enabled Mac. Apple’s New iMacs With 21.5 And 27-inch Displays

Apple has finally unveiled new iMacs with brilliant LED-backlit 21.5 and 27-inch widescreen displays in a new edge-to-edge glass design and all aluminum enclosure. The 21.5-inch model provides up to 1920×1080 resolution with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor options running at 3.06 GHz or 3.33 GHz, and an nVidia GeForce 9400M or an ATI Radeon 4670 graphics card options. Meanwhile, the 27-inch model features the same processor options found on the smaller model.
Users can choose a faster 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 or a 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor as build-to-order options. Each purchase comes with a wireless keyboard and the all new wireless Magic Mouse, the world’s first mouse with Multi-Touch technology pioneered by Apple on the iPhone, iPod touch and Mac notebook trackpad. The 21.5 and 27-inch iMacs are priced at $1,199 and $1,699, respectively.

Samsung To Release Six New Desktop PCs

Samsung has announced in Korea their new range of PC called Magic Black Design. This PC will be released next year. There are six new computers, the MZ70, MV70, MZ68, MX15, NZ67 and NZ65. No word yet on detailed specifications, but the company guarantees the competitiveness of their products. The price tags should be around $770 and $1430. Stay tuned for more updates

z10: greener, better, faster, stronger

Alright, I've finally managed to write a little entry about this...
On February 26th, IBM announced a new series of mainframes: the z10. It's still z/Architecture, although they expanded it a bit.
Here's what it looks like (image shamelessly stolen from the internet):

So, what makes it better, you ask?
It's faster (up to 64x quad-core 4.4GHz processors), it supports 3 times as much memory (storage in mainframe speak) as the z9 did (512GB -> 1.5TB), the cores are 50-100% faster depending on the load, and other goodies....I'll just list them in a list...it's more parsable that way:
64x quad-core 4.4GHz processors
64 kB L1 i-cache
128 kB L1 d-cache
3 MB L2 cache
z/Architecture
crypto, decimal floating point, and compression accelerators
894 instructions, 75% implemented in hardware
1MB, as well as 4 kB page tables (z9 has only 4 kB)
1.5TB memory (z9 had 512GB limit)
50-100% faster execution (depending on the workload)
One z10 is equivalent to 1500 x86 servers, but uses 85% less power
Available in the second quarter of 2008
IBM also announced that there's a porting effort to get OpenSolaris to run on the z10.

Apple's New Multi-touch Magic Mouse

Apple has debuted new wireless Magic Mouse with the much deserved update - multi-touch technology for navigation. Featuring solid acrylic surface, the new Magic Mouse replaces Mighty Mouse with a trackball. Magic Mouse would be available for Rs. 3,890 in India by the end of this month.Apple's love with multi-touch is fairly known and needs no special mention yet again. Apple's multi-touch technology is already featured in iPhone, iPod Touch and Trackpads of the MacBooks. The new wireless Magic Mouse that has no buttons, no trackballs is ambidextrous - usable with both hands. Apple has also renamed Mighty Mouse to Apple Mouse in order to avoid any confusion with the newly introduced device.Magic Mouse carries a "seamless" multi-touch surface that covers its top area and is touted world's first multi-touch mouse. No need to worry about cords since Magic Mouse connects to any Bluetooth enabled Mac machine wirelessly. Acting as an advanced point-and-click mouse, users can click as well as double click by tapping finger once or twice on the top surface. Also, enabling Secondary Click in System Preferences will make it function as two-button mouse.Multi-touch obsession takes the next step with Magic Mouse that supports finger gestures to navigate on the display. For instance, scrolling in any direction requires simply using one finger on the mouse's top surface. Magic mouse also supports "360 degree scrolling" - smooth up/down and left/right scrolling within a window, just like in iPhone and MacBook's trackpads. Apple boasts of a chip that senses finger gestures and responds accordingly.

Yeah, the whole mouse is a button, but you can do the right-, middle-, and left-click. Sony's new Vaio L series all-in-one desktop

Okay, NEC. So, you think you're so bad, now that you've managed to announce no fewer than 26 new computers in a single day. Well, all we can say is, don't mess with Sony. In addition to showing off its Blu-ray totin' RC300, the company is also dropping something like 41 other Vaio models, including upgrades to the H, V, F and S series, and a whole new line called the VGC-L series. We'll start the show with the L, an all-in-one desktop with a either a 19-inch 1680 x 1050 or 15.4-inch 1280 x 800 LCD display. The line comes with a range of processor options, including a Core Duo T2300 at 1.66GHz or a Celeron M 420 at 1.6GHz. Sony also throws in a dual-layer burner, 200GB drive and FeliCa port (these are Japan-only models, remember). The keyboard is designed to fold up on top of the display, leaving just enough displayed to allow access to audio controls via the included remote. And although Sony's including XP Home (we would have liked MCE as at least an option), Sony is certifying these as "Vista Capable," making them among the first new boxes out of Japan to carry that shiny new sticker. Prices range from ¥160,000 (about $1,350) to ¥220,000 ($1,855), depending on configuration
